3DS150: Learning the Leica BLK360 Imaging Laser Scanner

This is a badge currently in-development by the Shell 3D Visualization Center.

3DS150 is intended to introduce users to the Leica BLK360, a state-of-the-art LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) 360° 3D scanner.

Select a location to enroll in a workshop, resume a quiz, or reserve equipment in your local instance of the MAP.

In this course, you'll learn:

  • The basics of LiDAR scanning, and advantages/limitations compared to structured light scanning (SLS) and photogrammetry.

  • How LiDAR scanners work.

  • Safety precautions and outdoor use tips and tricks.

  • Device status indicators.

  • Step-by-step instructions for operating the Leica BLK360.

  • The fundamentals of Autodesk ReCap, and how to compile and process scan data.

  • Post-processing tips, tricks, and best practices.
